PENTRON 6 and PENTRON 9

Baugh & Weedon NDT offers two standard sized, modular, penetrant testing systems, for post-emulsifiable and/or water washable fluorescent penetrant processing.

PENTRON 6 and PENTRON 9 systems fully accommodate multi-station processes, and can be configured easily to suit the available floor space. They satisfy the majority of penetrant inspection procedures, and can be adapted readily to meet new specific testing requirements. Additional modules may be added conveniently to suit a different process, or processes.

  • PENTRON 6 systems are based on tanks, nominally sized 600 x 600 x 400mm deep

  • PENTRON 9 systems are based on tanks, nominally sized 915 x 915 x 600mm deep

PENTRON modular testing systems are designed and manufactured to the highest standards. Each liquid containing tank is made of welded stainless steel and has a protective stainless steel grill in its' base.A 40mm box section stainless steel framework supports each tank module, and all working heights are 900mm, unless stated otherwise. Systems also include a drying oven, developer station, inspection booths and drain/rest stations as requested.

PENTRON systems can be supplied to satisfy individual customer requirements.

DRY DEVELOPER CABINETS / POWDER STORMS

A dry developer cabinet, or powder storm unit, is normally located at the end of a liquid penetrant process line, and applies developer powder prior to inspection. Generally: Baugh & Weedon NDT cabinets consists of a stainless steel tank and box section supporting framework. The bottom of the tank is formed into a 'V' shape to allow the powder to concentrate at the centre of the cabinet. Above this 'V' section, a grill is fitted, onto which the components are placed. Powder can be manually charged, or automatically injected by a system which operates only when the cabinet is closed.

The powder is dispersed within the total volume of the cabinet during operation. A powder collection unit provides extraction for the remaining air-born powder inside the cabinet, when the developer process is complete. This unit is located either to the rear, or to one side of the cabinet, as space allows. The air-born powder is retained on filters in the collection unit, until it is transferred to an internal pot for disposal.

Top Opening, Front Opening and Through Type Cabinets
The top opening cabinet, as illustrated above, has a lid which provides access to the cabinet. When the lid is closed and secured, by an interlock and two toggle clamps, an airtight seal is formed which prevents the powder escaping during operation. A separate electrical control box, fitted to the right hand side of the powder storm unit, has all the necessary controls for the entire process.

Safety
There are two safety circuits incorporated into the cabinet. When either is activated, the process cycle will be stopped automatically and returned to the start:

  • The first circuit is controlled by the EMERGENCY STOP button which stops the process at any stage it has reached, turns on the extraction fan and allows the lid to be opened.

  • The second circuit is controlled by a limit switch, and is operated by the lid. Should the lid be opened at any time during the initial part of the process cycle, before extraction commences, then the extraction fan will operate and the process cycle stopped. The cycle is restarted from the beginning by pressing the RUNNING button.
